qmail-run uses daemontools for starting qmail at boottime and additionally ucspi-tcp for running qmail-smtpd.
There are binary packages available for both, and a daemontools-run package that starts daemontools' svscan from /etc/inittab.
I warrant that I have made a good-faith attempt to ensure that the packages behave correctly.
Please note that the packages do not comply with the Debian Policy (Section 2.1.1 and 10.1.1), and so are not part of Debian GNU/Linux.
You can download the packages, or add
deb http://smarden.org/pape/Debian/ sarge unofficial deb-src http://smarden.org/pape/Debian/ sarge unofficialto /etc/apt/sources.list on Debian/sarge, and run
# apt-get updateThen install the packages as usual with apt-get, dpkg or dselect, e.g.:
# apt-get install qmail-run
There is a
